Light: the Most Important
The first and last hour of day light are called Golden Hour.
Besides Ultra violet and infra-red light, which we can not see, there is also the part of sunlight we can see.
Because the sun has to travel roughly 320 km/ 200 miles through our atmosphere at sunrise and far less at mid day, when the sun is high up in the sky (then it is about 30 km/ 18 mi), the gasses and dust particles in our atmosphere will break the light of the 7 colors of sunrays and especially blue and violet, which will be scattered off.
That makes the light more colorfull at sunrise and sunset. And why it is more yellow at sunrise and more red at sunset is because of dust and other pollution, which is less in the morning.
Het eerste en laatste uur van het daglicht heet Gouden uurtje. Behalve Ultra violet en infrarood licht, dat we niet kunnen zien, is er nog een deel van het zonlicht dat we wel zien.
Omdat zonlicht bij zonsopkomst zo'n 320 km door onze atmosfeer moet schijnen en midden op de dag, als de zon hoog staat maar 30 km, breken de gassen en stofdeeltjes in onze atmosfeer de zeven lichtstralen en helemaal blauw en violet, die zelfs gefilterd worden.
Daarom is het zonlicht bij zonsopkomst en zonsondergang veel kleurrijker. En waarom het meer geel is bij zonsopkomst en meer rood bij zonsondergang, heeft weer te maken met stof en andere vervuiling en die is minder in de ochtend.
A poor composition in nice light, will always look better than a nice composition in poor light.
Een matige compositie in mooi licht ziet er altijd beter uit dan een mooie compositie in matig licht.
Light is the most important ingredient, besides an unsharp background bokeh when photographing animals.

Red Deer in back light
Most important: use the first 2 hours or the last 2 hours of light of the day.
Then sunrays travel through lots of miles of atmosphere that will give the light a nice color.
Edelhert in tegenlicht
Belangrijk: gebruik de eerste 2 of de laatste 2 uur van de dag.
Dan moeten zonnestralen door vele kilometers atmosfeer stralen waardoor ze een mooie kleur krijgen.

You need some warm light, a nice pose and placement of your subject and when the color of your subject is also in your background, it even is more tastier.
So we take a Great Spotted Woodpecker and the black and white of the bird is also in the birch tree and we add some nice warm side light.

De eerste zonnestralen raken de paal en de Steenuil, de achtergrond vangt nog geen zonlicht en is nog donker waardoor de vogel er mooi uit springt.
